The election of the CPA Small Branches Chairperson will take place during the 40th CPA Small Branches Conference on 4 November 2024 in Sydney, New South Wales.

Please note: only official CPA Small Branches delegates can vote in this election.

Biography: Deputy Adrian Gabriel

Adrian Gabriel is a People’s Deputy in Guernsey, part of the British Islands and Mediterranean Region of the CPA.

In October 2023, Adrian was confirmed as regional representative of CPA Small Branches Steering Group Sub Committee by BIM regional members during their AGM. Since his election, Adrian has represented the Branch at Regional and Plenary events and at various CPA workshops and seminars both in the Region and at the 65th CPC.

Adrian has been a member of the States of Guernsey since October 2020. He is the Vice President of the Committee for the Environment and Infrastructure, which has responsibility for infrastructure; climate change; conservation of the natural environment; energy; general housing; spatial planning; coastal defences; transport; biodiversity; animal health.

Outside of his political duties, he is a board member of a charitable sheltered housing association.

Before his election, Adrian held positions in transport organisations, bringing extensive experience to his current roles.

Biography: Hon. Shane Thompson MLA Speaker of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly

Hon. Shane Thompson has represented the constituency of Nahendeh since 2015. He is the Speaker of the 20th Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly. He served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Social Development and as a Member of the Priorities and Planning, and Rules and Procedures Committees. He currently chairs the Assembly’s Board of Management.

Born in the Northwest Territories, he has lived in several remote and rural communities. He has made Fort Simpson his home since 1992.

Mr Thompson served six years as an elected official on the Fort Simpson District Education Authority. He chaired the Board for four years. He has more than 35 years of experience serving on community and territorial boards.

Mr Thompson is an experience sport and recreation leader, and volunteers with youth and sport organisations.

Mr Thompson is the father of seven children - five daughters and two sons – and has nine grandchildren.

Biography: Hon. Valerie Woods, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belize

Hon. Valerie Woods was first appointed to the National Assembly of Belize as a Senator from 2016 to 2019. She was then elected in December 2020 as the Speaker of the Belize House of Representatives.

She is currently in her last year as the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) for the Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region which ends at the 67th CPC. She served as the Vice-Chairperson of the CWP Steering Committee for 2022-2024 and served as the Acting CWP Chairperson for the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in 2022.

Since being Speaker of the House of Representatives, she pursued professional development studies in parliamentary service through the CPA Academy and Gender Studies through the Caribbean Institute in Gender and Development through UWI.

As the Speaker, she has been a lead facilitator on the CPA’s Administrative Review of the Parliament and on the proposed draft changes to the Standing Orders.
